This Professional Certificate in Security Management is designed for security personnel in private and public organizations seeking to elevate their professional profile by advancing their credentials in career-relevant security skills and knowledge. It will provide an enriching experience where the participant will gain knowledge and understanding in the fundamentals of Security Administration and Operations.

Programme structure
Six modules.
- Security leadership and management (9 hrs) – leadership theories and management styles, the role of the leader, emotional intelligence as a tool for employee relations, the six approaches to leadership, and well-being strategies for a resilient workforce
- Recruitment, retention and employee performance enhancement (9 hrs) – the stages of recruitment and the security manager’s input, designing interview questions by level, approaches to screening applicants, performance management programmes, and employee engagement and retention
- Business writing for security professionals (9 hrs) – audience and purpose, the requisites of a good business document, formatting reports and correspondence, and constructing emails, memos, reports and proposals. Includes short written assignments
- Conflict management: the customer service approach (6 hrs) – verbal and non-verbal communication, positive communication methods, early conflict recognition, and defusing and de-escalating conflict
- Physical security and risk assessment (9 hrs) – the elements of a risk assessment, the four ways to manage risk, the Four D’s of physical security (deter, detect, delay, deny), and physical security applications in asset protection
- Crisis management (9 hrs) – an all-hazards approach, the roles and responsibilities of the crisis management team, emergency response planning and communications, emergency operations centres and succession planning, and business impact analysis. Includes a table-top exercise

Faculty
Who teaches this.
Leon Chandler
A security professional and training consultant, CPP, PSP and PCI certified and a member of ASIS International. Served ten years in the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force and four years as a Security Coordination Assistant with the United Nations. Provides consultancy in investigations, security risk assessments, security site surveys and security officer training, and lectures candidates pursuing ASIS CPP certification.
Andrea Peters-Chandler
A training and development, human resource and security management professional with twenty-five years’ experience across public and private organisations and secondary and tertiary institutions. Holds a Master’s in Corporate and Organisational Communication, a Diploma in Industrial Relations, and ASIS CPP and PCI certifications, and is SHRM-SCP certified. Led an HR and training unit to ISO 18788:2015 certification in Security Operations Management, and now works as a Judicial Curriculum Specialist at the Judicial Education Institute of Trinidad and Tobago.
