About this course.
Operations management occurs over a wide range of business activities and business sectors such as manufacturing, services, distribution, retail, exploration, agriculture and the public sector. It involves the transformation of input resources into marketable products and services.
The efficiency and effectiveness with which the operations of an organisation are managed are critical to its survival in a highly competitive global environment. This Professional Certificate covers the entire process from the acquisition and management of inputs and the management of flows in the transformation process through to the management and distribution of outputs.

Curriculum
What you will learn.
The programme is designed to enable participants:
- To develop a critical understanding of the role of operations management in relation to organisational performance and competitiveness
- To build knowledge of operations management principles and concepts, and how they apply across finance, sales, marketing, human resource management and design
- To develop expertise in quality management, process management and control, and supply chain tools and techniques for analysing, controlling and improving operations across manufacturing, services and the public sector
Programme structure
Six modules.
- Foundations of operations management – the role of the operations manager, the input-transformation-output process, characteristics of operations processes, and process technology and people
- Supply chain management – procurement, managing relationships between operations and other functions, the external supply chain, and lean, agile and sustainable supply chains
- Operations planning, scheduling and control – demand management, capacity planning and master scheduling, inventory planning and control, ERP, and project planning and control
- Decision making in operations management – financial and cost benefit analysis, product and service design, facility location, and waiting line analysis
- Marketing and distribution logistics – logistical relationships within the firm, marketing channels, packaging and materials handling, warehousing and transportation, and international logistics
- Quality management – specifications and conformance, quality control and assurance, statistical process control, total quality management, and benchmarking and continuous improvement
Assessment: a group project presentation analysing and evaluating the operations management activities of a specific company, presented six weeks after the final module.

Faculty
Who teaches this.
Mr. Vernon Henry – Faculty Lead
Over thirty years in purchasing and materials management, including senior supply roles at ArcelorMittal (formerly ISCOTT), National Flour Mills, Witco, Petrotrin and RBC Financial (Caribbean). A CIPS tutor for over twenty years and managing director of Purchasing & Materials Management Services Limited. Holds a BSc in Management (UWI), a CIPS Graduate Diploma and an MBA from Andrews University.
Mr. Nyron Mohammed
Thirty years across services, manufacturing, process plant, public service, finance and consultancy, holding portfolios in supply chain, procurement, logistics, project and operations management in both the private and public sectors. A senior facilitator on several master’s programmes and on the CIPS certificate, advanced certificate and international diploma programmes.
Mr. Abriham Daniel
A Senior Member of the American Society for Quality and a Certified Quality Engineer, with an MSc in Quality Engineering from Nottingham Trent University. A certified Lead Auditor for quality and occupational health and safety management systems with UL-DQS, USA, and a consultant on ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
Dr. Bhushan Singh
Over 20 years in leadership, strategic management, financial and risk management and consulting at board and executive level. A Project Management Professional holding a BSc, MSc and DBA from The University of the West Indies, with certificates from Boston University and MIT in leadership development and innovation.
